There are two main types of medications used to treat asthma. First, quick-relief medications are used to treat asthma symptoms quickly, as soon as they develop. The second category is referred to as long-term control medication, which includes inhaled corticosteroids. This type of medicine is used on a regular basis to improve lung function and to control asthma symptoms before they start.
