Self-Care and Other Treatments

In most cases, healthcare providers will suggest a plan of care that has proven effective for the majority of people with chronic back pain. The provider may discuss an expected course of recovery and recommend a treatment plan. Providers may also suggest:

  • Staying active
  • Learning about the care and prevention of back pain

Other treatments often recommended for chronic low back pain include:

  • Spinal Manipulation
  • Exercise Therapy
  • Dry Needling
  • Massage
  • Acupuncture
  • Yoga
  • Cognitive-Behavior Therapy
  • Progressive Relaxation
  • Intensive Interdisciplinary Rehab, which involves a combination of therapies
