The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center

DVBIC Overview:
As the operational component for TBI at the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, DVBIC is a network of 18 sites specializing in research, clinical affairs and education/outreach related to traumatic brain injury. These sites work collaboratively with their host military treatment facilities and Veterans Administration hospitals to provide and improve TBI care for active duty military, veterans and their eligible beneficiaries.

Since 1992, when it was established by Congress, the DVBIC has studied the effect of head injuries in the military. With a staff of military, civilians and contractors, the DVBIC supports patients with mild, moderate and severe TBI through research, recovery support programs, and education and training programs. It develops guidelines for care, gathers data on the prevalence of TBI in the military and conducts research to help future patients. DVBIC also provides care coordination and educational programs.

Through state-of-the-science clinical research, innovative educational programs, and resources, DVBIC has developed TBI-specific clinical recommendations and educational tools for all military personnel, their dependents, and veterans with brain injury.
