Real Patient
Matt and I, my husband, decided it was time to have a baby. And I’ve always wanted a baby, but we were never on the same page. And finally when we were, we realized it was not as easy to get pregnant as we thought it would be. And so, a year later, still no baby. We figured maybe something was wrong with one of us.
So we both decided to go into the doctor, to Captain Legowski here at Nellis. And go through the infertility route and see, maybe, we could find out what was going on. So she did an ultrasound to make sure there was nothing going on in there. And then after that we, well my husband did his own testing separately where they take his sperm and then they test it to make sure everything’s okay.
And after the ultrasound we had another appointment. They just wanted to clear out the tubes. Where they go in and they put a balloon and they kind of, they put some ink in there and they said that my tubes were cleared. But I like to think that that’s why I got pregnant. Because, I mean, they got cleaned out. So I feel like that’s why I got pregnant.
I don’t think that I ever really had infertility problems. I think it was just a matter of timing. And so a week later, my baby was conceived. And so we, we didn’t have to go as far in the process of infertility as we thought we would have to.
And 36, I had 36 hours of labor, and pushed for three hours. So it was nothing like people said it would be. Oh you’re going to, it’ll be just great, 15 minutes I pushed and, no. So that was really intense for me. I dilated to six centimeters before I got my epidural. So I was able to push and, you know, finally be able to get him out with a little bit of help thanks to them. But, I’m glad that they offered that because a C-section would not have been ideal for me. He was a nine-pound baby, so you can imagine it was pretty painful, but I would do it a million times over just to have him.
I would want to say when you are in that bed and you’re in bed, just surrender to the pain. That’s what got me through, is just breathe. Don’t scream, just breathe. Because it’s, it’ll all be over soon and you’ll have the best gift ever. There are no words when you see your baby. It was just unbelievable.
My advice to other couples who can’t get pregnant right away like they want is, just be patient because it takes time. It’s not, you know, it’s not easy. Especially when you’re trying to have a baby and you get stressed and other things. Just let it happen. Just wait. It’ll happen.
